BEST Awards
The BEST Award for Excellence is designed to reward those skills and qualities, such as reliability, commitment and initiative, which employers and colleges are looking for in young people.
Developed in conjunction with industry and post-16 education and training, the award scheme has been running in Manchester High Schools since 1996 and involves students from the beginning of Year 10 up until Easter of Year 11.
The Award has four elements:
- Attendance and Punctuality
- Work Experience
- Active Citizenship
- Key Skills
At the end of Year 11, students who have achieved the top two levels of the Award are invited to receive their certificate at special graduation ceremonies held at Manchester Town Hall.

- Greater community involvement
- Improved understanding of the importance placed on 'employability skills'
- Certification of these skills by an outside agency
