An Aim Higher conference

The Aimhigher Conferences are a collaborative project between BEST and the Gifted and Talented Co-ordinators in Manchester and Trafford, funded by Aimhigher. See Events for 2006 dates.

Conference aims:

  • To deliver student workshops focused on Further Education, Higher Education and the world of work
  • To remove the barriers to Further/Higher Education for young people
  • To help students make an effective and planned transition into their careers

The Conference is delivered to the Gifted and Talented/Widening Participation Year 11 cohort. Each student attends five workshops:

  • Further Education
  • Higher Education
  • Student Life
  • Professional Apprenticeships
  • World of Work (Practice Interview)

Benefits:

  • Raising awareness of, and removing barriers to, Higher and Further Education
  • Developing students' interview and life skills e.g. team working, communications, problem-solving
  • Fostering employers' relationships with schools and local communities
  • Promoting personal development of employees
  • Increasing understanding of initiatives taking place in schools
  • Fulfilling Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policies
